Ava Tapestry
2025
Drawing conceptual and aesthetic influence from the work of artist and designer Hussein Chalayan, the piece explores themes of material memory and constructed environments. The tapestry is composed of vintage Japanese woven linens, ribbons, and assorted textiles, all sourced from a single supplier in South London, who has been collecting fabrics from all over the world for more than half a century. Assembled through a process of hand-stitching by the artist, the patchwork panels were subsequently joined by the textile specialists at The Pattern Room. The work engages with the language of garment-making and domestic craft, offering a tactile counterpoint to the high-tech context of its installation. This textile work, measuring 5 by 2.5 metres, was developed for the Wellness Space at Ava Labs annual Hackathon, commissioned by the creative agency Creation.
